Altimetry Devices – Regulatory Requirement

CAR Standard 625, Appendix C –Out of Phase Tasks and Equipment Maintenance Requirements

Altimeters and other Altimetry devices
Effective December 30, 2007

Shall be inspected and calibrated at intervals not exceeding 24 months, in accordance with CAR Standard 571, Appendix B.

Altimeters and other Altimetry devices installed in aircraft under IFR (Instrument Flight Rules, or under VFR (Visual Flight Rules) in Class B and C Air space or Class C and D Airspace that is designated as “Transponder Airspace” shall be Inspected and Calibrated.

Altimetry Devices include:

  • Air Data Computer
  • Barometric device, providing a flight crew station, Auto Pilot
  • Altitude alerting system with altitude data derived from static pressure.

Air Traffic Control (ATC) Transponders
Effective December 01, 2000

Shall be inspected and tested at intervals not exceeding 24 months, in accordance with CAR Standard 571, Appendix F.

ATC Transponders, including any associated altitude sensing reporting mechanism were installed, such as Altitude Encoders.
